How can we help?
01903 786287SLC are a leading leisure, physical activity, sport and wellness consultancy, with a national and global reputation.
SLC needed to take out Cyber insurance as a minimum liability requirement, when appointed as consultants to a particular framework.
The cost of insurance for them differed, depending on whether they had a Cyber Essentials certification or not. So, we became their cyber security partner, so they were able to gain the Cyber Essentials certification and so that we could provide security assurances.
Cyber Essentials is a government-backed and industry-supported scheme that helps businesses protect themselves against the growing threat of cyber-attacks, and it provides a clear statement of the basic controls organisations should have in place to protect themselves.
It’s the UK Government’s answer to a safer internet space for organisations of all sizes, across all sectors. Developed and operated by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), Cyber Essentials is considered the best first step to a more secure network, protecting businesses from 80% of the most basic cyber security breaches.
Gaining the Cyber Essentials certification also enables organisations to highlight their credentials as a trustworthy and secure business.
Fentons provided a Pre-Assessment to see if any hurdles would stop SLC from being granted the Cyber Essentials certification. Upon completion of the assessment, our team met with SLC to discuss the items which were identified and needed addressing before proceeding with the certification. We also advised on how best to manage these.
These included user device changes such as Encryption & Malware protection, along with the configuration of MFA (multi factor authentication), on applicable Cloud services. Following this, and working with our Cyber Essentials Certification partner, we successfully obtained the Cyber Essentials certification on behalf of SLC.
The client increased their IT security, saved money on cyber insurance and were subsequently able to work on a new contract within the specified framework.
The Cyber Essentials certification is only awarded to businesses who implement collective methods, technologies and processes to help protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of computer systems, networks, and data, against cyber-attacks and unauthorised access. The benefits of gaining Cyber Essentials certification include:
"Fentons were incredibly helpful in guiding us through the technical requirements of gaining Cyber Essentials certification and supporting us to ensure our cyber security systems and processes were robust"
